Sourcing from India for buyers in Europe
If you are a retailer, wholesaler or online seller in Europe, we can source products from Indian vendors and suppliers to your brief, and arrange the shipment to a European port. Europe is many markets with shared product rules, so tell us your destination country.
Product rules come first in Europe
- Products sold in the EU must meet the EU product safety rules, and a business selling to consumers normally needs a responsible person or operator established in the EU. Please confirm with your adviser what applies to you.
- Jewellery and leather goods are subject to restrictions on certain substances, for example nickel release in jewellery and some chemicals in leather and textiles. Tell us your market when you send the brief so suppliers can be asked about it.
- Textile products need labelling of fibre composition, and labels often have to be in the language of the country where the goods are sold.
- Food-contact items such as kitchenware have their own material rules.
EORI, duty and advance data
The importer normally needs an EORI number. Before the cargo arrives in the EU, the carrier must file advance cargo information (ICS2), which needs a specific cargo description, the HS code and complete party details. We ask for these at the start so shipments are not held up.
The importer pays duty and VAT in the country of arrival. The United Kingdom is outside the EU and has its own rules, so tell us if your goods are going there.
One company, brief to Europe
- We source from Indian vendors and suppliers to your brief; we do not manufacture.
- You tell us the product, the quantity and the destination. We find suppliers and compare offers. Samples and prices are shared where the supplier makes them available.
- Shipping is arranged through our logistics brand Axiport: shipping from India to Europe.
Common questions
Which products need the most checking for Europe?
Anything that touches food or skin or is worn, such as kitchenware, jewellery, leather goods and garments, tends to come with the most rules. Tell us the product and the country and we will raise it with suppliers early.
What is an EORI number?
It is the registration number the importer normally needs to clear goods into the EU. Your buyer or customs agent can tell you how to get one.
Do you ship to the United Kingdom?
The UK has separate import rules, so it is quoted separately. Tell us the destination and we will confirm what is possible.
Import rules, duties and standards differ by country and change over time. Please confirm the current requirements for your product with your customs agent or local adviser before you order.
